Scale & Depth

I use two tricks to make my home look more cozy and personalized - scale and depth. Above, are two images with very similar pieces. The main differences are the scale of the items and the way they are placed.

SCALE: Don't be afraid to use large pieces of artwork or wall decor. The large mirror on the right works, because the chest acts as an anchor for it. The smaller mirror looks lost above the heavier chest. DEPTH: In the image on the right, I layered (and stacked) the items, which gives the space a comfortable, lived-in look. On the shelf of the chest on the right, I used three larger baskets. I think this creates a clean pattern, which is a nice compliment to the asymmetry on the top of the chest.
