Petal Pusher

No doubt about it, I am definitely a fresh flower addict. In this busy, hectic world, I find the beauty, fragrance, natural charm and simplicity of fresh flowers to be incredibly soothing and inspiring. When I put fresh flowers out, it motivates me to do something else productive! Nothing lifts my spirits more than a house full of flowers.

While my floral fashions cheer me up and provide instant therapy, the downside is watching them wilt. With that in mind, here are a few tips for keeping your blooms looking fresh a little longer.

* Once you purchase your flowers, immediately put them in water, even if you don't have time to arrange them in a vase.

* Rinse the stems to remove any dirt or bacteria.

* Cut flower stems at an angle or slant while holding the stem under water. Flowers keep best when cut with a sharp knife, not scissors.

* Remove any leaves from the flower that would be submerged in the water.

* Use plain, lukewarm water for most cut flowers and cold water for bulb flowers like tulips, or daffodils.

* Use a flower preservative or flower food.

* Change the water every two days.

* Keep flowers out of direct sunlight.

Fill your home with flowers, and brighten up every room. You'll be glad you did!
